Crash and burn IMO. Any PvP game that uses classes mostly fails. There is no freedom in your character if you follow the path laid out to you by the "class" restrictions. With each class being fundamentally different, the will be constant struggle to try to balance the classes. Or worse yet, there might not even be any attempt to balance classes. In which case most combat will be decided before hand simply by what side has more of class X and class Y. Rock-Paper-Scissors is not PvP!

Also the conflict between players is restricted to factions. There are no player made factions. You are forced to team with dimwits and half-brains, or people so immature you wonder if their age even contains 2 digits.

There are no player run cities. It will just be a little mix between Guild Wars and WoW, with graphics that leave much to be desired. Seen more ambitious games fail before (See ShadowBane), and fail for similar reasons. Although in case of SB, the amount of bugs played a good part.

Eh I don't think it will crash and burn, people like that stuff even though it sucks. Just look at the success of WoW.

I'm not sure I agree classes are flawed in and of themselves, I mean when you think about UO templates they are essentially classes, it's just that UO allowed a high level of player skill to affect the outcome of combat. There are some pretty unbalanced matchups in UO, for example dexer vs a parry/heal mage.

Rochambeau is the basis for a ton of video game balance design, it's just some games are better at hiding it than others. I do agree that any class should be able to kill any other class, however, I don't think it should necessarily be an equal matchup for all combinations.

Combat restricted to factions is the major suck ass for sure. I for one think AoC looks more promising, atleast you can control cities and siege them and such. They might even have FFA servers, woot. Speaking of Shadowbane, they just wiped all their servers and started fresh, I was thinking of playing again. They have fixed most of the bugs and balanced the game pretty well, or so I gather. Would be fun if we got some of the old Und there. My main gripe/lack of interest in mmos these days is I don't have anyone to play with. As a grizzled mmo vet I can't stand meeting new people, 90% of mmo players are complete idiots and I just don't have the patience to find cool people anymore.

WOW = Boring!

Conan and Warhammer look like decent games. Conan seems a little more exciting to me based on how the combat will work and you have to actualy think to kill someone instead of just smashing a skill button.

DoW 2 isn't until 2k9 I thought... as much as I love the first game I haven't really seen much to make me excited about the sequel, looks like the same game with updated graphics and the CoH cover mechanic. I may try out WAR when it comes out depending on who all is playing and what they have to say about it, right now I'm splitting my time between AoC and EVE.

Let us know how the WAR beta is when that rolls around.

Hmm DoW2 could have been bumped to 2009..Its gameplay is the style of CoH and diablo.Basicly no more base building and such.You have to keep your sqaud alive but youll be able to gear your caps with loot drops and such.Should be interesting how it turns out.
As for Warhammer online ill keep you guys update with stuff once open beta hits since theres no NDA on the OP.So screenies and vids possibly to show it to you and see how you like it.Im pretty much interested in greenskins/Dark elf diciple of khaine and of course chaos classes.Magus mjust looks so odd though.Everytime I see them floating on thier discs casting stuff I think im watching a warhammer version of something from he-man.
